Hi, teacher friend!
Does any of this sound familiar?
The same old fluency practices in your classroom feel stale.
You’re not sure if they are really working.
You don’t know how to engage your students in fluency work to make sure that they are growing.
Phonics and comprehension practice in your classroom is easy to assess, but fluency feels like one, big gray area.
I can help!
My name is Stephanie and I am 2nd grade teacher. I have 10 years of public education experience under my belt. I am super passionate about fluency work in the reading block…especially in grades 2-4! Once students can decode, it does not mean they are ready to comprehend a text on their own. We have to bridge all of their new phonics knowledge to the deep comprehension we want to see with fluency!
I spend a big chunk of my time working on fluency in my 2nd grade classroom.
But I will be real with you: fluency is BORING. Rereading the same parts of a text? Timing students while they read? Choral reading texts together? Boring.
These are tried and true instructional methods that we should be using, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t be creative about how we do them!
This is why I developed a line of fluency actives for students that will keep them engaged! Let’s make fluency work FUN.
