Three Ways to Use Writing Projects in Distance Learning

So here we are, in the official middle of April, and we are still distance learning. Somehow, even though many of us have been living with this new reality for over a month, it doesn’t feel any easier. Maybe going through the motions of logging in and being on camera feels a little easier, but the emotions of not seeing our kids in person is still too difficult. Or maybe it all still feels hard. Wherever you’re at, that’s ok.

Today, I wanted to share three ways that I think writing projects can be used in distance learning. Three different ways feels appropriate, because no two districts are handling this the same way!

1️⃣ Send the teacher guide home for parents to teach with, and the student workbook for students to work in.

2️⃣ Teach the mini lessons on your virtual teaching platform and let the kids do the work in their workbooks. They can take a picture of the finished piece and send back to you, or scan and upload.

3️⃣ Upload a digital version of the project to your Google Drive, complete with text boxes for students to type their story planning and drafts into, drawing tools for editing, and the ability to digitally conference with them through notes and comments.

And there you have it! Three ways to use writing projects in distance learning. You can access my full library of writing projects in my store! Each project is offered in both print and digital, so you can purchase the version that best fits your distance learning needs!
