I asked ChatGPT to plan my teacher wardrobe. Here’s what happened.
I really do swear by the saying “Look good, feel good. Feel good, teach good”. Ignore the horrible grammar. I think it’s true! If you are put together on the outside, it can influence how confident and put together you are on the inside. And that influences how you move through your day.
I’m a mom of four young kids. My oldest is 10, and my youngest is 2. I write curriculum and run an online store AND teach 4th grade math full time. I wake up early and work out. I make time to read my Bible. I pack lunchboxes and prep snacks. I even (sometimes) carve out time to cook huge breakfasts before my kids are up.
My life is filled to the brim with serving others. And I wouldn’t change it, but it doesn’t leave a ton of time for me to worry about clothing.
But I love to be well-dressed! I love a stylish, on-trend outfit that makes me feel completely put together. Who doesn’t?? Before I was a mom, the teacher outfits were just as important to me as the classroom setup.
But also, who has time to try all of the trends, or decide what to buy and what to skip when it comes to back-to-school shopping? Not this mom. I have four kids I have to buy clothes for. Buying things for myself is so far on the back burner, it’s not even funny.
It’s late July, and all of the influencers are posting their ‘back to school’ outfit ideas. It always inspires me and makes me wish that I could find a little more time for shopping.
So, I decided to participate in my own, private experiment. I gave ChatGPT my Amazon cart, a full-body photo of me, and a photo of my classroom. And I asked it to dress me!
This was my exact prompt:
Study this picture of my body. Notice my body type, my proportions, and my coloring. I am also giving you a picture of my classroom. I want you to take my body and put it in my classroom. Then, layer on the pieces from my Amazon shopping list to build teacher outifts. Make sure that the outfits fit on my body the way that I am actually designed. Do not change my body type or shrink parts of me down to look like the models in the Amazon photos. Keep my skin tone and hair color the same. Build outfits that are on-trend and good for the transition from summer to fall. Generate one image, then wait for my signal to generate another one.
Here’s what happened.

Transitional Fall Outfits for Teachers (Amazon Edition)
I wanted to focus on ‘transitional fall’ pieces. I live in Nashville, and even in December we can have afternoons in the 70s or 80s, but mornings that are chillier. Pieces that fit the vibes of the cooler months, but won’t make you sweat to death during outdoor recess are my target for the entire first semester. I can always layer on a jacket if I need to. Here are the outfits it suggested, along with links, if you want to shop along!
Outfit One: Denim Vest + White Kick Crop Jeans + Mesh Flats
Outfit Two: Black Midi Dress + Chunky Beads + Sandals
Ok, now who is this girl?? The changes to my face cracked me up 😂. But ignore that.
This flowy dress with puff sleeves is my ultimate dream outfit. The length and color are perfect. They scream “It’s almost PSL season”, but the strappy sandals make it clear that it’s still warm-weather season. And the breeziness of the dress makes it ideal for those early fall afternoons. You also could wear this dress with sneakers or boots, and belted with a long cardigan. Go all in with a fall look.
And that chunky necklace??? I die.
I’m not keeping the sandals, because I have a few pairs of strappy sandals already. But the dress and necklace are a yes. This is the ideal Open House outfit!
Outfit Four: Olive Jeans, Flutter Sleeve Top, Platform Sneakers
Ok so at this point, I had to feed Chat another picture of my face just to remind it what I looked like. We were going a little off the rails. 😂
This outfit is a win, too. These are the same jeans as the first picture, but in this olive color. Very fall. Very cute.
I normally would pair wider jeans like this with a fitted top, but I like the loose-on-loose aesthetic here! It’s cute.
I also really love those sneakers. I have bought two pairs of shoes from this Lucky Step brand, and I love them! These are a fun pop of color on this otherwise super neutral outfit.
I don’t know how I feel about buying the same pair of jeans in two different colors without ever wearing them. I think these sneakers will also look good with the white jeans, so I may try those first. If I love the fit of the white, I’ll come back for more colors!
This first photo is a winner, because that’s actually my face. You’ll see as we go that my face gets lost, hahah. For the purposes of this experiment, I didn’t need the photos to have my face. Just my body.
I LOVE this outfit. The white jeans are perfect for late summer/early fall. The denim vest is professional while also being trendy. And those mesh flats are great for standing up for hours, while also looking polished.
This is a winner, and I kept it all in my cart.
Outfit Three: Tank, Skirt, Belt
And now we have a guest appearance from this lady 😂.
Not my face. Kind of my body. BUT THE OUTFIT.
This whole thing is a yes. I will be getting this, and re-using it for Thanksgiving. And picture day. It’s gorgeous. The belt is something that’s actually been in my cart since last October, and I keep moving it to my wishlist, then back into my cart, then back out. And it’s not pricy at all! (At the time that I’m writing this, it’s on sale for $11!)
The mesh flats work here, again. But this also would work well with regular ballet flats, sandals, and knee-high boots tucked under the skirt.
And that skirt works with this tank top for the heat, but as it gets cooler it could be re-used with a cardigan that’s buttoned all the way up, a big chunky sweater, a graphic tee…really anything.
Add to cart. (I’m not sold that this skirt actually has pockets. I think that’s a ChatGPT addition, but since I’m buying this one I can report back and confirm.
Outfit Five: Denim Babydoll Dress + Mesh Flats
This is a cute staple dress that could be layered with almost anything. I picture this with a trench coat that I got a few years back and some tall, leather boots. But of course the way it is styled here works well, too!
Something about the babydoll silhouette falls flat for me, though. This is how babydoll dresses look on me, and I’m never a fan. Maybe it’s the four kids I’ve already had, and my sensitivity to looking like I”m pregnant again. 😂
I think I’ll hold off on this one, for now. It’s a cute dress, but it looked MUCH cuter on the Amazon model. Proof that this exercise was worth the trouble. Seeing things on myself gave me a stronger gut feeling about how I’d feel about it in real life. And this isn’t a strong enough yes for me.
Now the real test comes. Buying these clothes and seeing if they look as cute in real life as they do on the AI version of me. Stay tuned!
